Our goal in this article will be to explore the social developments that exemplify the twilight of the 20th century, as depicted in the popular medium of comics and also comment on the representations of childhood therein. Furthermore we are going to compare the narrative preferences of the francophone bandes dessinées with other important comic traditions, like the American comic books and the Japanese manga. Using popular titles such as Titeuf, Le Petit Spirou and Dragon Ball as examples, we are going to focus on the subject of sexuality, the influence of new technologies and the role of children in contemporary stories.
