This paper looks at the comic strips and other items relating to food and cookering in British girlls' publication 'Girl' which was published through the 1950s and into the 1960s. It makes a close textual analysis of the sample of 70 weekly editions.

History

Biography

Dr Mel Gibson works at Northumbria University, UK. She is an Associate Professor in Childhood Studies and a National Teaching Fellow. Her research focuses on comics and graphic novels (both historical and contemporary) and their readership (especially female readers). Mel also works with libraries and other institutions in developing and promoting graphic novels and comics. She has also written about library history.
