Overcrowded Living
Overview
The Overcrowded Living Project explored how design-led creative activities and collaborative processes could engage residents and stakeholders in understanding the challenges, needs, and desires of individuals living in overcrowded conditions. The goal was to identify opportunities for improvement and design effective solutions.
Outputs
In collaboration with officers from the London Borough of Camden, Camden residents, and other stakeholders, MA Industrial Design students from Central Saint Martins examined ways to support residents living in overcrowded conditions where moving to larger accommodation was not a feasible short, medium, or long-term option. Additionally, they aimed to enable and support staff who visit and advise households facing overcrowding.
The team developed tools and methods to facilitate collaborative research with residents experiencing overcrowding. They created visualisations of insights gathered and proposed final designs that addressed identified challenges and opportunities. These designs aimed to offer practical solutions to improve living conditions for those affected by overcrowding.
